This worksheet helps you prepare questions. It does not calculate a benefit amount, evaluate health information or recommend buying or replacing a policy. No financial or medical details are entered here.
Begin with responsibilities, not a slogan.
The NAIC recommends considering financial dependence, ongoing expenses and how needs may change over time. [1] For your conversation, note which responsibilities matter most: household income, a mortgage, final expenses or education plans. There is no automatic coverage recommendation in this checklist.
Bring existing coverage into the discussion.
Have the basic information for any coverage you already have, including benefits through work when applicable. Ask which questions need to be answered before comparing anything new. This page is not advice to replace an existing policy.
Ask what lasts and what can change.
Term life insurance provides coverage for a specified period. Cash-value forms have different structures and features. [1] Ask about duration, premium obligations, guarantees and any non-guaranteed elements in the specific option being discussed. Mentioning a product category here is not a claim that a particular policy is available to you.
Discuss beneficiaries and the application process.
A beneficiary is the person or entity designated to receive a death benefit under the policy. [2] Bring questions about your intended designation. The agent can explain the appropriate application process and what information the insurer needs. Do not send medical records, Social Security numbers or payment information through this public worksheet.
Questions to bring with you
- What need is this option intended to address, and for how long?
- What is guaranteed and what could change?
- What payments would I need to maintain?
- What information is required before a policy can be issued and take effect?
Life insurance has its own conversation path at Bray Insurance. You do not have to request an auto or home quote first. The office is at 1640 Tiffin Ave, Suite A, Findlay, Ohio.
